Dream last minute find (Gold Sovereign)

30 Aug 2022

On this day I travelled to a beach which had produced well in the past. Upon arriving I was greeted with truckloads of new sand and only found a $2 coin. After an hour I decided to travel to another beach and was greeted with more sanded in gutters. I persevered and managed to find 70 cents, sinkers bit of lead and trash. I walked a good 250metres of beach and decided to walk back to the car as I felt defeated after 3 hours. One last stop I said to myself and upon arriving in ankle deep water I hit a coin spill, 2 x $2 coins a 10c coin and then the next target which had an 18 TID number on my Equinox 600. The first scoop popped out the top of an old bottle, possibly late 1800s early 1900s but the target I was after was still in the hole and so I scoop again and had the target in the scoop. I shake the scoop in the water to remove some of the sand and shells then tipped the contents onto the wet sand, I ran the detector coil over the target again and an 18 TID was still showing and my thinking was that it isn't a $2 and too small sounding for a ring. I moved the sand and shells with the coil and saw gold and thought huh, I couldn't see it well as my eyesight isn't the best so I bent down and saw St George and a dragon, I gasped and said oh my god this has to be play money, I reached down put it in my hand and felt the weight and I knew it was a Gold Sovereign. Tears flowed because after 5 and a half years I found one of the biggest bucket list items, I face timed my wife screamed i yes yes yes, said a few explicit words then made my way to the car. It is the greatest moment of my detecting hobby and one story I'll pass on to my grandchildren.
